What kind of clay do you use?
I use a white stoneware, fired first to cone 04 (1935 degrees), then cone 6 (2235 degrees). It is made in the next town over at Amherst Potter’s Supply. It has a white finish like porcelain but the durability of stoneware.
Is it food/dishwasher/microwave safe?
Yep! I use commercial glaze from Coyote Glazes that is certified food safe as well as dishwasher and microwave safe.
What are those teeny tiny cracks in the glaze?
Those cracks are called “crazing” and those happen when the glaze firing causes the glaze and the clay to sometimes expand/shrink at different rates. Crazing can happen right away or a long time after the firing, you can hear a “ping” sound when it does happen. It does not effect the functionality of the piece, and is no cause for concern.
Do you make custom pieces?
Yep! I absolutely do. If you have something in mind you’d like made, please let me know. The most common request at the moment is custom sized planters for special shelves and colanders for wedding gifts.
What happens if my piece breaks?
If your piece breaks for no apparent reason, I will replace it. I stand by everything I make and send into the world and if for whatever reason, it chips or cracks and you don’t think it should’ve, let me know and we will work something out.
