welcome.

m. sward ceramics is a small-batch pottery studio based in Western Massachusetts. Artist Megan Sward channels her well-honed anxiety into making obsessive, functional pottery. Complex colander designs and repetitive mark-making fueled by stressful news cycles are a particular specialty.

timeless.

Each form balances durability and design: simple lines, beautiful glazes, and surfaces that invite use. Rooted in traditional craft and pared down for modern life, the work sits somewhere between timeless and contemporary, precious and utilitarian — functional pottery for people who appreciate attention to detail and feel nervous about throwing handmade pottery into a dishwasher (it’s ok, go for it).

practical.

The rocks you gathered on your nature walk deserve better than the windowsill. The car keys lost in the bottom of your massive tote bag want more from life. The legos your kid left on the dining room table (again) don’t need to be thrown away in a fit of cleaning rage. Your used tea bags want a cozy spot to dry out for a few days.

Try a handmade bowl — your objects will thank you.

comforting.

“Research now makes clear that experiencing or creating art sparks a dynamic interplay among brain cells that spearheads billions of changes affecting our thoughts, emotions, and actions. This knowledge elevates the arts to a superpower in its potential for healing and empowerment.” - Susan Magsamen

I hope that if you own a piece of my work, it brings you a little peace or a moment of stillness. And please know that when you buy my art, you’ve got a small part of my squirrelly soul living with you, so take good care of it and yourself.

xx,

Megan
